Star’s Tale

Prologue

A Star Is Born

In a quaint coastal town in the north of England, where the briny breeze carries the whispers of the ocean, something magical happened. From a cosy suburban apartment in the early hours of a Friday morning in May came the softest of howls. A Star was born.

With her warm brown almond-shaped eyes, masked by her plush wolf-grey and white fur, and a distinctive black-tipped tail, Star was the smallest Siberian Husky, no larger than a Funko Pop. She was the runt of her litter. And she had four siblings.

Diesel was almost identical to Star in every way, except his grey fur was lighter with sandy undertones and a patch of white on the back of his neck. Luka stood out among his siblings with his striking black and white coat and icy blue eyes. Storm, the largest of the puppies, was wolf-grey and white with a teardrop-shaped white stripe that divided his brown eyes. Finally, there was Skye, with fur identical to Storm’s and bewitching blue eyes that glistened like the clear coastal sky. She bore a remarkable resemblance to their mother, Shadow.

For the most part, Shadow was an excellent mother, watching over her puppies with the gentle vigilance of a seasoned guardian. But one day, Shadow’s face portrayed a look of bewilderment as a faint cry seemed to emanate from within her. To her surprise, she quickly realised she had accidentally sat on two of her pups as they wriggled free from beneath her, completely unharmed.

As the weeks passed, the pack of husky puppies grew in size and beauty, forming their own unique personalities and characteristics. Soon, their apartment echoed with the delightful sounds of playful yips and the pitter-patter of little paws. Every moment was an exciting new discovery, and every day brought a brand-new opportunity to explore their surroundings and experience the joy of life.

They behaved more like cats than dogs, displaying an intrinsic curiosity for all things. Storm became the bravest of his siblings, always leading the pack when faced with new and enticing situations. While the others remained cautious as if anticipating a jump scare, Storm’s adventurous spirit lured them along. Diesel and Luka had become inseparable friends and partners in crime, sharing an unbreakable bond. Whilst Diesel, energetic and playful, relished playing with his chew toys, Luka had a penchant for mischief, delighting in hunting his siblings’ tails to use as chew toys; his favourite was Diesel’s. Skye and Star, just as boisterous as the boys, weren’t afraid to use their paws to assert dominance. Their tails were not up for grabs, and they made sure Luka knew it. They ruled their pack with panache.

From the beginning, it was clear that Star was different. Despite her tiny size, she had the biggest heart. Nurtured by her mother and siblings, Star flourished with a unique disposition. She was boisterous yet brave, dramatic yet sassy, curious yet clumsy, mischievous yet tenacious, and talkative—very talkative. Her black-tipped tail, contrasting with the white-tipped tails of her siblings, exemplified her unique individuality. Her adventures, both ordinary and extraordinary, were yet to be written, but the tale of Star was already one of innate courage and curiosity, much like the legendary sled dogs of old. Star yearned for the world beyond her little apartment, with endless possibilities awaiting her.

For when Star was old enough and at least as big as a cat, she would leave her brothers and sister to embark on the lifelong adventure that awaited her in pursuit of her own destiny.
