Star’s Ball

TL;DR

Star’s ball is an Orbee-Tuff Squeak Ball by Planet Dog. Chosen for its impressive durability claims and bright blue colour, this is Star’s longest-lasting ball, and it’s still going strong. Its buoyant and bouncy qualities make it adventure-proof. It’s made in the USA and is coated with mint oil to help keep her breath fresh. It’s satisfyingly squeaky too!

Why the Orbee-Tuff Squeak Ball?

Star has had her Orbee-Tuff Squeak Ball since her birthday earlier this year in May. She is yet to destroy it, and it is yet to squeak its final squeak. After five months of being chewed, thrown, and chased, it’s still going strong. By a large margin, it’s the most durable ball she’s ever had.

That next-level durability combined with its buoyancy makes it adventure-proof, so it can accompany Star wherever she goes, even to the beach. Its bouncy nature makes it exhilarating to chase and play with, whilst the squeak makes it satisfying to catch and chew.

Made in the USA, The craftsmanship is outstandingly high quality. The bright blue colour is incredibly vibrant and easy to see in low visibility. It’s infused with a natural mint oil coating, giving it a distinct scent that also works to keep Star’s breath fresh. It’s also BPA-free, lead-free, and phthalate-free.

Star is a notorious ball slayer, but the Orbee-Tuff ball has withstood everything she’s put it through and still looks great. It’s as good as a squeaky ball gets.

How it was chosen

Star has had many balls throughout her life from many different brands. Some squeaky, some not. She loses interest if they don’t squeak, and as much as she loves tennis balls, they aren’t safe for dogs. Squeaky balls are the only choice for Star, though they don’t usually last longer than a few minutes. So the goal was to find something durable enough to last months, not minutes.

Star has been testing the durability of squeaky balls for over 11 years, and she’s discovered some good ones. Cycle Dog’s High Roller Dog Ball was the first to last longer than a day, surviving a few months before needing to be replaced. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, it disappeared from the UK market many years ago.

Chuckit!’s Ultra Squeaker Ball was one of Star’s favourites, but the squeaker would break after a few weeks. Nerf Dog’s Large Squeak Ball matched the durability of Cycle Dog’s High Roller Dog Ball, but it was too big for Star to squeak properly. Star has had a steady rotation of these two balls for several years, and she loved them. But they’re not good enough, and she deserved something better.

Extensive research uncovered Dog Lab’s exceptional round-up on dog balls. Their squeaky ball pick was Planet Dog’s Orbee-Tuff Squeak Ball, so Star tested one. Its durability surpassed that of every ball which came before.
