Star’s Shampoo
Why OUAI?
OUAI is a (human) haircare and skincare brand, and they’ve created some of the very best (and best smelling) hair care products for humans on the planet. Their products are incredibly effective yet gentle enough for the most sensitive skins and scalps. And they’ve achieved it without compromising on fragrance.
In fact, OUAI has designed and developed an entire range of uniquely gorgeous scents for their haircare products that they went on to release them as actual perfumes. So, when they applied their best-in-class haircare expertise and fragrance mastery to crafting a pet shampoo, it was clear it would be special.
OUAI’s Fur Bébé shampoo does not disappoint. It’s as effective and gentle as OUAI’s human shampoos but in a pet-safe formula designed for their fur and skin. It smells just as divine, with the same Mercer Street scent. Except, on Star’s fur, that scent lingers for weeks after being bathed.
It’s also hydrating, leaving Star’s double coat feeling exceptionally soft and lustrous, so there’s no need for a separate conditioner post-shampoo. It’s the best shampoo she has ever used.
Importantly for Star, like the rest of OUAI’s products, the nasties (like parabens, phthalates, and sulphates) are out, and there’s no animal testing. OUAI is cruelty-free.
How it was chosen
The short answer is it should have been an obvious choice. And in a sense, it was. Skincare and haircare products for humans are crafted to a much higher standard than those which litter the pet industry. So when a renowned, high-quality haircare brand develops a pet shampoo, it stands out. Especially if it adheres to those same high standards as OUAI’s does.
Unfortunately for Star, A shampoo like OUAI’s from a company like OUAI didn’t exist in her younger years. So, her path to discovering such a good shampoo wasn’t that straightforward.
Star was consistently discontent with the shampoos typically available in pet stores and supermarkets. The fragrance options were poor, with most smelling of the same chemically clean dog scent. So, there was always an effort to find something better from a very early age.
It began with seeking out skincare brands that supplied spas, hoping they might also make some products for dogs. It was a lucky discovery, but one such brand, Sea Magik, used to have a dog shampoo brand called ScruffyChops. It was an exceptional shampoo, and the fragrances were lovely. Unfortunately, those products no longer exist.
The next best thing was to seek out the grooming brands that supply dog groomers, hoping they might be a step above the pet store brands. Wild Wash is one which stuck out. They have an extensive range of great shampoos with unique, albeit not long-lasting, fragrances. Star has used their products for many years and still loves their insect repellent. Star’s former groomer also uses their products.
But then OUAI launched their pet shampoo, and it’s just on a whole other level. It’s a superior shampoo in every aspect that matters to Star.
A pet skincare revolution
In recent years, a new wave of skincare and fur-care brands specifically designed for the needs of dogs have been popping up on Star’s radar. These brands seem to take the best traits of high-quality skincare for humans and apply them to pet products.
The ones which stand out to Star so far are L’floof, Wild For Dogs, and WAP. Besides WAP, Star hasn’t had much experience with these brands yet. In part because she’s pretty content with her existing products but also because her brief experience with WAP was underwhelming.
However, Star’s birthday is soon, and she does need a new paw moisturiser. And perhaps a new perfume too.
