Star’s Travel Bowl
Why Beco?
Beco is a sustainable and environmentally friendly pet lifestyle brand with superb and aspiring ethical credentials. It makes them one of Star’s favourites and is the first port of call for anything Star needs or wants. They’re a certified B Corp and make a great effort to leave our planet better than they found it.
Beco craft their travel bowls from seamless silicone, which results in a bowl that is both flexible yet sturdy and incredibly durable. The seamless construction allows it to function this way without being prone to leaks. It also makes it remarkably easy to clean.
Beco’s travel bowl is very convenient to adventure with thanks to its collapsable flat pack design and the flexible nature of silicone. It pops out quickly and easily and flattens away just as efficiently.
The wavy design of their bowl’s folds adds some unique character to the design, which is a lovely touch resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing bowl. Star’s bowl is the blue one (a gorgeous shade that compliments her favourite squeaky ball) in medium (the perfect size for Star).
When it comes to travel bowls, Beco has created a really good one. Silicone is the superior, albeit common material choice. But Beco’s ethical credentials and unique wavy fold design elevate them above all others.
How it was chosen
Star was already a satisfied Beco customer. She has lots of their toys, most recently adding Ollie The Octopus to her toy box. Star also has a Beco food scoop, and until recently, she was a lifelong user of their poop bags. Beco was the obvious choice from the outset.
But it was necessary to explore options before settling on Beco’s travel bowl in case there was a better solution for Star’s needs.
One of the more intriguing options is a water bottle with a built-in bowl that either screws off or flicks out. As cool as these are in concept, they’re flawed in execution. The bowl component of these products is commonly plastic, which isn’t a good material for a dog bowl.
With plastic ruled out, Steel being too reactive to the heat of a warm sunny day, and Star’s cooling ceramic bowls being too heavy and fragile to travel with, it became clear that silicone was the most appropriate material.
Before settling on Beco’s travel bowl, Star tried Wilderdog’s Siliprint bowl. Although it is a nice bowl, the folding method was too intricate, and the bowl was still relatively large in its compact form. Cocopup London’s travel bowls, although aesthetically minimalist, utilise a similar folding mechanism to Wilderdog’s.
A small caveat
Although Beco’s silicone travel bowl is durable, it is not chew proof. Like with most things, it is necessary to supervise your dog’s use of Beco’s travel bowl.
Since it’s not a sock or a squeaky ball, this hasn’t been a problem for Star.
