Star’s Food
Why AATU?
AATU’s composition follows the 80/20 diet, which more closely mimics the ancestral diet of dogs than most other dog foods. That means it contains 80% meat or fish protein, 20% fruit, vegetables, herbs, and botanicals, and zero grain, white potato, or gluten, which minimises potential allergies. It’s a much healthier and better-balanced diet for dogs.
The higher animal protein in AATU makes it much more palatable, even for a dog as particular about her food as Star. AATU handcraft their recipes in small batches from high-quality fresh, raw meat or fish that is pre-cooked in a way that aids digestion. It includes probiotics to help keep Star’s digestive system healthy. And there are no artificial colours, artificial preservatives, artificial flavours, or GM ingredients.
The concentrated formula of AATU means the daily food consumption is much lower than most other dog foods, which keeps the feeding cost per day competitive. AATU’s food comes packaged in a well-designed resealable storage bag that helps keep the food fresh and tasty for longer. It’s also available on a subscription tailored to Star’s daily food requirements, which is cost-effective and convenient.
Star will turn 12 years old this year, yet she is frequently mistaken for a puppy. Her health, coat quality, and youthfulness are due to her AATU diet. It’s almost as if they discovered the fountain of youth, infused its waters with their recipes, and kept it secret for the benefit of dogs.
Star loves AATU.
How it was chosen
Star has always been fussy when it comes to her food. When she was a puppy, Star quickly grew bored of the kibble she was weaned on, which began a multi-year-long process of experimenting with many different foods.
The first brand of food Star tried was Eukanuba. At the time, this brand was promoted and recommended by her veterinarian. Eukanuba has an overly complex product line, making it difficult to determine which recipe is right for your dog. Star tried a few different ones but didn’t particularly love any.
As it turns out, you can’t entirely trust a veterinarian’s recommendation with dog food. Enter All about dog food. A fantastic dog food directory that shows you the highest quality dog foods available based on your dog’s breed, age, and weight, that are within your budget. Unlike most similar tools, All about dog food is impartial and independent.
The first food Star tried from All about dog food’s recommendations was Eden Holistic Pet Food’s fish recipe, and it was the first food Star truly loved. This choice cemented the 80/20 ancestral diet as the perfect diet for Star and fish as the ideal flavour.
Star later switched to Origin’s six-fish recipe because it was more convenient to purchase via Ocado’s (since sold to paws.com) Fetch. Although Orijen’s food is no doubt great, and as much as Star liked it, she didn’t do too well on it.
Star dabbled with Tails.com, and as much as they tried to continue to tweak her personalised recipe, it was always a significant downgrade from the diet she was used to. She didn’t like any of their blends.
In 2014 AATU arrived on the market and was suggested as a replacement for Orijen by Fetch after they stopped stocking it. Upon tasting their Salmon and Herring recipe, Star switched food brands for the final time. She loved it, and she thrived on it. When AATU introduced a new variant with shellfish a few years later, Star swapped to it and has been eating it every day since.
